Media Release – TORONTO, Ontario – October 15, 2021
Some recent graduates of Centennial’s Broadcasting – Radio, Television, Film & Digital Media program have a challenge on their hands. They need Veterans—some in their mid 90’s and older—for a hip hop video intended to thank Canadian Veterans for their gift of peace and freedom. Filming begins soon and will be both live and virtual.
Three up-and-coming Toronto singer/songwriters will collaborate on the music and lyrics: Cuban-born, Yan Carlos Medina Alvarez (“Yanzzy”); French Canadian, Joey Perreault (“Joey Rose”) and First Nations Anishinaabe artist, Lena Recollet. With a production team of five, the video will feature Veterans from the Second World War, Korea, and more recent conflicts (such as Afghanistan), with a focus on diversity.
“We want to create an engaging and fun video that captures the attention of youth,” said Kenesha Johnson, the video’s Director. “We want this video to be inspiring.”
The video is scheduled for release in Spring 2022 and is funded by Veteran Affairs’ Commemorative Partnership Program.
