Operation Cannon shot was launched at 16:00 on April 11, 1945. The soldiers of the 1st Canadian Division were tasked with crossing the IJssel River in Gorssel, Holland, cutting the retreating German forces in half, then pushing west toward Apeldoorn. It would be their last battle of the Second World War.
