In Development

"Dying for freedom isn’t the worst that can happen.
Being forgotten is."

Faces to Names uses modern technology, engagement strategies, storytelling, and links—similar to social media, Ancestry, and Wikipedia to engage Canadians with remembrance and inspire year-round commemorative events.

Simple, easy to use.

Just enter a name and let Faces to Names’ powerful search engine do the work. Faces to Names includes all Canadians killed in the First and Second World Wars and will expand to include those killed before and after these conflicts, including Canadian peacekeeping missions.

Visual, engaging.

Colour-coded profile photos enable immediate identification: Army (camo), Navy (blue), Airforce (yellow). Time-lined Story and Service tabs provide each person’s unique background. The Remembered tab showcases remembrances including student projects.

Indexed, inclusive.

Groups show the person as part of an indexed classification such as: a  division (e.g. regiment or squadron), a category (e.g. women, Indigenous, Jewish), and/or a location (e.g. hometown, cenotaph or other memorial) providing insight and context, and promoting research.

Contextual, educational.

Links within each profile provide social/community context, military information, and historical background. Infographics provide new and informative insights.

Inspirational.

Faces to Names inspires the next generation to seek and submit information while providing a home for their research. Engagement technology and themed challenges aid profile completion and inspire year-round commemorative events and initiatives. QR codes located at cenotaphs across Canada provide mobile access to the Faces to Names database.

Our Vision.

Faces to Names will be Canada’s national site for remembrance research, education, and year-round commemorative inspiration.
Help ensure that those who died for peace and freedom are never forgotten.
